Karachi: Pakistan introduced homemade drones to the world in the International Defense Exhibition (IDEAS) 2014 which surprised the foreign delegates. Pakistan, who seems to condemn US drone strikes in its tribal areas of the country in past, has now joined the elite group of those countries capable of manufacturing unmanned drones or UAVs.
Pakistan has asked US government several times to handover the lethal drones to hunt down the militants hiding at Pak-Afghan border. US refused to provide the lethal technology of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) by stating the sensitivity if this technology cannot be handled by Pakistan. Pakistan already has enough unmanned combat which can target the enemies, US officials further added.
After this refusal Pakistan decided to make its own combat drones and the engineers have come up with great result of developing drones at home. The proof of this claim showed in the IDEAS 2014 where the foreign delegates of different countries took enormous interest in Pakistani drones. According to Pakistan military officials, the drones have the capability to locate the enemies but engineers are doing more work to make it lethal.
Pakistan used UAVs for the spying purposes against the militants but its striking capability is not good enough as compare to US drones which are being used in the region. China has offered Pakistan to purchase its unmanned combat drones several times but refused because official claimed that Chinese aircraft are not capable enough to strike effectively.
According to the officials of IDEAS 2014, Pakistan doesn’t have enough numbers of these small drones and are not being used more often in the operations against militants. On the other hand US officials doubt the capability of Pakistan to manufacture such kind of drones. Only America and Israel claim to have such lethal technology of unmanned combat aircraft but now Pakistan claims to have such drones made by its own engineers.
